1994 'On Liberty' Vivienne Westwood Couture Velvet Frock Coat

About the Item

This incredible teal blue velvet couture frock coat by Vivienne Westwood is an excellent example of her interest in Victorian silhouettes and traditional 'dandy' styles. It featured heavily in her Fall/Winter 1994 collection, which came at the very height of her designing career. The fabric is a luxurious soft deep teal brushed velvet, which is even richer in real life. The coat has a wide pointed collar and an asymmetrical front fastening, with three gold buttons each embossed with the classic orb logo detail. The sleeves are flared at the cuff and are split from just below the elbow - they would look stunning with a frilled blouse underneath. The hem of the coat is longer at the front, coming to a neat point in a typical Westwood shape inspired by pirates and Victorian tailoring. There is a pleat running from waist to rear hem, creating a flattering, nipped in silhouette. The coat is lined with pale pearly pink silk, with the classic Vivienne Westwood logo and 'Made in England' label. This is from the top of the range and Westwood's gold label collection with pieces made in very limited numbers. In fabulous vintage condition with no flaws or marks. Labelled a Size 10 UK, it is important to remember that Vivienne Westwood's own sizing system tends to come up small, and so this would best fit a size 6-8 UK, or 2-4 US. MEASUREMENTS: BUST: 32 in.
